View of Little Bay Beach headlands, Sydney.

'View of Little Bay Beach headlands, Sydney' was my first seascape in coloured pencil - the beginning of an affinity for coastal illustration. Depicted in hyper-realism is an inviting and iconic sanctuary for many Sydney locals - equally adored by tourists and golfers onlooking from the course situated up on the headlands. I captured my reference photos on a weekday morning while I shared the beach with only a few Little Bay residents strolling along the shoreline. I translated the tranquility and privacy of the scene I photographed that morning to my drawing board, closely replicating the jutting rockery and the calm rolling of the water.
My work is driven by the silent symmetry of natural form. Particularly in this piece I have highlighted both symmetry and connection between sky and water. The placement of the horizon line evokes a mirrored effect within the composition, drawing the onlooking eye to travel through the image while subconsciously absorbing the two elements as reflection of the other.
